A Calendar is produced each year by “The Ringing World”, the weekly journal for church bellringers, which features the churches from one of the many ringing societies throughout the world.

As next year marks the 125th anniversary of the Hertford County Association of Change Ringers, to which Barkway is affiliated, this particular Society has been selected to feature on the 2009 calendar. This means that, for each month of the year, a photograph of one of the County’s churches will appear.

As the Hertford County Association is split into 6 Districts, each District was invited to submit 2 photographs for inclusion within the Calendar.

I am happy to report that Barkway, along with Standon, have been selected to represent the Bishop’s Stortford District. This followed a meeting of the District members who were asked to vote on the two photographs that were thought to be most appropriate. Incidentally the photograph of the church was taken from the north-west corner of the tower in Church Lane.

The calendars will be on sale around the end of August at a price of £5.25 and if anybody would like to reserve a copy please either ring Richard Atkins on 848477 or send an email to ratki5@hotmail.com. All profits from the sale will go towards the County Bell Restoration Fund.
