"Got up early the next morning and got to Barkway, where I staid and drank, and there met with a letter-carrier of Cambridge, with whom I rode all the way to Cambridge, my horse being tired and myself very wet with rain". From the diary of Samuel Pepys - 3rd August, 1661.l
Welcome to our website

Barkway supports a number of small businesses; many are run from the houses in the Village. It provides a dormitory for workers in Royston, Cambridge and London. Hardly an evening passes without some sort of event taking place in the Village Hall, School, Reading Room or Pub.

The Church and Chapel are well attended and the Sunday Schools thrive.

Most important of all, the quality of education at Barkway School is known as the very best in the locality and its excellence, particularly in information technology and have been recognized by award giving bodies.
Barkway, and its hamlets, look to the future with confidence and a determination to provide a high quality of life whilst retaining its rural heritage. To the left you can see Barkway Pylon, our landmark - like an arrow in reverse pointing the way to our lovely village.
